Charles Edward Kirby

July 18, 1937 – March 18, 2020

PONTOTOC – Charles Edward Kirby, 82, passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth, MS.  Charles was born in East Rochester, New York, attended school in upstate New York.  At the age of seventeen, Charles joined the United States Navy and was honorably discharged.  He played football for Navy and New York Giants.  He worked as a road crew member for the State of New York and as a correctional officer for the State Penitentiary in Rochester, New York.  Later in life he attended Elim Bible College, becoming a state chaplain, pastoring many churches, and evangelizing for many years.

Charles is survived by his wife, Dorothy Edwards Kirby; his daughters, Sandra Kirby Williams and Jesse and Linda Kirby Wyrick; seven grandchildren, Dewayne, Larry, Tony and Cindy, Leslie and Phil, J.J. and Kristen, and Joshua; twelve great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; two sisters, Louise Smith-James and Lois Caruso; one nephew, Billy; two nieces, Tina and Tammy; one grand nephew and four grand nieces.

Charles is preceded in death by his father, William Kirby; his mother, Georgia Knatt Kirby; his daughter, Aline Lindsey; sister and brother in law, Janice Meadows and Brice; brother in law, Sal Caruso; granddaughter, Melanie Williams; and son in law, Bruce Wyrick.

Services will be at 12PM, Saturday, March 21, 2020 at West Pontotoc Pentecostal Church in Pontotoc with Rev. Eugene Taylor officiating.  Burial will follow in Ecru Cemetery.

Visitation will be Saturday, March 21, 10AM until service time at the church.

Pallbearers:  J.J. Williams, Joshua Wyrick, Tony Lindsey, Rev. Johnny Jones, Rev. Kaleb Morgan, and Rev. Troy Bone.
