Jessmer Marcelle Kennedy Vaughan
Smithville – Jessmer Marcelle Kennedy Vaughan, 99, passed away on Monday, April 27, 2020, at Riverplace Nursing Center, Amory, MS. Born on New Year’s Day, in 1921 in Sulligent, she was the daughter of late Luther and Hattie Bell Engle Kennedy.
Jessmer grew up in Monroe County and attended a one room school, named Trace Road School. She married the love of her life, Maxcell Vaughan, and together they were blessed with two sons. In addition to being a great homemaker, Jessmer also helped support the family by working for many years in the manufacturing industry at Monroe Trousers. Jessmer loved God and loved her friends and family fiercely. A faithful member of Trace Road Baptist Church, she worshipped with her church family until her health no longer permitted her attendance.
A family woman, Jessmer loved getting her family together for the holidays, especially on Christmas Eve. Some would describe Jessmer courageous, others might say she was a spit fire. She was feisty, had a quick wit, and was not afraid to speak what she was thinking. In her free time, she loved spoiling her dogs, coloring, and working cross word puzzles. She also like being outdoors, working in her vegetable and flower gardens or just fishing in the peace and quiet.
Her family celebrates as they know she is with her Lord and Savior and she is reunited with her husband and son. They celebrate the woman and role model that God blessed them with in their family. The memories she made with her family and friends will live on in their hearts forever.
Jessmer is survived by her son, Thomas W. Vaughan (Ella Mae); grandchildren, Margena McDonald (Henry), Marty Wilson Vaughan (Sandy), James Allen Vaughan (Belinda), and Kenny Vaughan; great grandchildren, Lisa Perry, Kala McKee (Baron), Christopher Vaughan (Rebecca), Caroline Vaughan, Stephen Vaughan (Lora), and Matthew Vaughan (Laura); a host of great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; special friend who was like a daughter to Jessmer, Eulene Caldwell.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Maxcel Vaughan and son, James Wilson Vaughan.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 30, 2020, at Haughton Memorial Park, in Amory, MS, with Bro. Scott George officiating.
