Vernon Crowe

September 21, 1941 – May 18, 2020

Vernon (Pete) Crowe, 78, of Rienzi, MS died May 18, 2020 as the result of metastatic colon cancer. Those who knew Vern will forever treasure his sweet, sweet spirit and his fiery zest for life. He had a joy and love of life which he shared so generously with those whose lives he touched. Through his fierce five years of trials with the caustic cancer, he consistently maintained a peace beyond all understanding, which he always attributed to trusting in God for everything at all times in all things.

Vern was born on September 21, 1941 in Rienzi, MS to Bruce and Geneva Crowe. His childhood and most of his older adult life was spent in Rienzi, MS, but he lived in Cicero, IL for 25 years. Vern married his high school sweetheart, Jodie Davis on April 25, 1962 and they were blissfully married for 57 years. They had two wonderful sons Timothy and Shane. Sadly, they lost Timothy to a accident on February 14, 2012 and their lives were changed forever.

Vern graduated from Thrasher High School in 1961 in Thrasher, MS with a thick head of dark brown hair which he combed often with a black comb positioned in his back pocket. He worked at Wurlitzer in Corinth, MS for a brief time before relocating to Cicero, IL where he was employed as an mechanic at Emeril Denmark Cadillac for 16 years. He and Jodie returned to their hometown in Rienzi, MS in 1986 and Vern opened Vern Crowe's Service Station. With Vern's mechanical talents, the business was a huge success and remained opened approximately 30 years. In addition, Vern operated Vern Crowe's Wrecker Service for 35 years. He was very proud of his wrecker service, as he should have been. His wreckers were always spotless. The communication between Vern and the highway patrolmen, sheriff office and the Corinth Police Department were exceptional. One patrolman described it this way, "We love to use Vern's Wrecker Service because he knows how to deal with people fairly and honestly and he consistently cleans the scene of the accidents."

A major honor received by Vern was to be a Mason and a Shriner for 55 years. He loved classic cars and did an off the frame restoration of 1969 Camero which took 2nd place in a national car show in Chicago, IL. He was also honored as Grand Marshall in the Rienzi Christmas Parade in 2012.
His "Heart of Hearts" was his two grandsons Forrest and Sean Tyler Crowe. He loved spending time with them and sharing his mechanical talents.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Geneva Crowe and his beloved son, Timothy Edwards Crowe.

Survivors include his wife, Jodie Crowe; father, Bruce Crowe; son, Shane Crowe all of Rienzi; two grandsons, Forrest Crowe of Tupelo, Sean Tyler Crowe of Rienzi; brother, Ellis (Glenda) Crowe, of Rienzi; three sisters, Hellen Adair of Tupelo, Barbara Lowery of Thrasher, Janet (Mike) Young of Rienzi.
