Jason Terrell

July 10, 1974 – June 9, 2020

John Jason Terrell, 45, of Vardaman traded his sorrow for joy on June 9, 2020 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Eupora after a valiant battle with cancer. Jason graced this world with his presence on July 10, 1974 in Indianola, Mississippi; he was a son to Beverly Charlotte Majour Mitchell and the late Freddie Wayne Terrell.

Jason enlisted in the United States Marine Corps shortly after graduating high school. He bravely fought the nation’s enemies during Operation Restore Hope Somalia in an effort to obtain global peace. By the time Jason was eligible for discharge he obtained the rank of Corporal. Upon his return to the civilian world, Jason found a career in law enforcement with the Mississippi High Patrol. He was member of the 53rd cadet class, graduating in 1998, after sixteen weeks of training.  Sargent First Class Terrell started patrolling Mississippi Highways’ in 1999 a job he would hold until his retirement in 2020.Not only was Jason a celebrated patrolman, but he was also an expert marksman serving as a sniper for the Mississippi Highway Patrol SWAT team. Jason knew how to work, but he also knew how to play. He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed the thrill of hunting and serenity of fishing. Jason also enjoyed a competitive game of softball with friends.  Jason knew the Lord and His promise of eternal life and worshipped when he was able at First Baptist Church of Vardaman.

Jason leaves behind a loving family to carry his precious memory in their hearts; wife, Tara Winter Terrell of Vardaman, Mississippi; daughter, Maddie Terrell; mother, Beverly Charlotte Mitchell; step father, Howard Mitchell; step-mother, Linda Terrell; two brothers: Brian(Lisa)Terrell and Billy (Shanin) Vowell;father in law, Dewayne Winter;  very special mother in law; Jeannie “Mimi” Winter; special niece Victoria Winter.

He was preceded in death his father; Freddie Terrell; uncle,Carl Joe Terrell; grandfathers: John Terrell and Gene Majour; grandmothers: Pauline Whatley and Margie Parker.

Jason will lie in repose from 1:00 PM- 4:00 PM on Thursday, June 11, 2020, in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Vardaman for friends and family to pay their respects.  A funeral service remembering Jason’s life will begin at 4:00 PM on Thursday, June 11, 2020, in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Vardaman. The Mississippi Highway Patrol Honor Guard will carry Jason to rest in Hillcrest Cemetery.  Nick Carter, Tim Davidson, Jeremy Harrell, Tyler Parker, Bubba Phillips, Barry Reedy, and Matt Winter will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family asks that memorials be made to Maddie Terrell’s scholarship fund c/o Sherry Williams.
