Mr. Johnny B. Russell, Jr., 69, transitioned on Monday, December 21, 2020 at the Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo.
Johnny B Russell, Jr., was born to the late Johnny B Russell, Sr. and Lizzie Lue Washington Russell on Sunday, August 5, 1951 in Columbus, MS. He departed this life for his eternal home on December 21, 2020 at the Sanctuary Hospice in Tupelo, MS.
Johnny joined the United States Army at an early age and was an awesome baseball player. He loved watching and playing sports and his favorite teams were the New England Patriots and the Alabama Crimson Tide. He also liked to fish in his spare time. Johnny really loved to garden but most of all, he planted bunches of greens and gave them to family and friends.
Johnny retired from Cooper Tire in Tupelo, MS after 31 years and lived most of his life in New Albany, MS. He was kind and compassionate and had a big smile and laugh that you will never forget.
He leaves to cherish his memories his beloved wife of 42 years; Mary Russell, three sons; William Scott Byrd of De Moines, IA, Reginald Russell (Tanya) of South Bend, IN, Jonathan Russell (Whitney) of New Albany, MS and three daughters; Janice and Terressa Russell both of Racine, WI, and Tracy Venson (Phillip) of New Albany, MS, one step-son; Michael Calvin of New Albany, MS, he also leaves two sisters; Gail Diane Lofton (Willie) of Memphis, TN, Lashelle Cox (Henry) of Ripley, MS, four brothers; Jimmy, Timmy and Oneal Barnett of WV, and Leroy Barnett. A host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Johnny B Russell, Sr. and Lizzie Lue Washington Russell.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, December 26, 2020 from 3-6p.m., at Serenity-Simmons Funeral Home Chapel in New Albany. Burial will take place at New Beginnings Memorial Cemetery in Myrtle, MS. Serenity-Simmons Funeral Home of New Albany is in charge of the arrangements.
