Gloria Joy Ledgewood passed away at UAB Hospital on January 14, 2021 after a brief illness. A service will take place at Memorial Funeral Home on Jan. 21 at 2 p.m. for family members only. Burial will be at Holder Cemetery in Burnsville, MS.
She was born in Burnsville on March 5, 1938. After graduating from Corinth High School in 1957, she attended Northeast Mississippi Community College and then Ray’s Beauty School in Florence, AL. She became co-owner of Beauty Land Beauty Shop, where she styled the ladies of Corinth in the latest fashionable looks throughout the 1960s.
She was a lover of music, having a great love for pop and Christian-based music throughout her life. Gloria also possessed a clear soprano voice and a natural ability to pick up melodies with no formal training. She was a member of Tate Baptist Church for many years where she was also a member of the Faith Sunday School Class and the Senior Adult Choir for a time.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Weyman Ledgewood and parents Loyal and Bernice Owens.
She is survived by her son, Kevin Ledgewood, of Northport, AL, sister-in-laws Villa and Vonnie Ledgewood of Iuka, and cousins, nieces, and nephews.
