Harry Vaughn, 73, passed away peacefully at his farm home on January 25, 2021 with his wife and children by his side. Visitation will be at Waller Funeral Home on Friday, January 29, 2021 from 10:00 am to 12 noon.
A life-long resident of Abbeville, MS, Harry proudly served in the United States Army from 1966 to 1968. Upon returning home from a tour of duty with the 2nd Battalion 32nd Infantry in Korea during the Vietnam conflict, he married and raised a family of his own while working at Georgia Pacific (formerly Champion) for 39 consecutive years until his retirement in 2009. Harry dedicated his life serving as a role model to his family and others by always choosing what was right and fair over what was easy and proving himself to be dependable, trustworthy, loyal, and true not through his words but through his actions. In his spare time, Harry enjoyed the tranquility of nature, fishing, helping friends, tending to his cattle, and a good John Wayne movie.
Harry is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sue Vaughn, children Amy (Eddie) Melton and Cary (Steven) Vaughn, sister Louise (Roy) Kiewert, granddaughter Megan (Hunter) Young, and two great grandsons, Paul Elijah and Lucas Ian Young. He is preceded in death by his parents, Earl Vaughn, Sr. and Hazel Leake Vaughn, siblings Dorothy Mayo Withrow, Helen Bennett Purser, Francis “Sonny”, Earl Jr., Carlos, Willis, Tony, and granddaughter Kimberly Melton.
The Vaughn family would like to give a special thanks to Penny and Laurie of Kare-in-Home hospice services for their exceptional care and service.
In honor of Mr. Vaughn’s service to his country, the flag of the United States Army will be flown at Waller Funeral Home.
