Vergie Mae Roach Ellington, 98, went to meet her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February3, 2021 while a resident of Carrington Nursing Center in Starkville, MS. Vergie has no doubt heard her Master say “Well done my good and faithful servant.”
Vergie was born on January 8, 1923 to Lillie Hunt and Jim Roach and was a lifelong resident of Oktibbeha County.
She was a funny girl, full of spunk and humor until the Lord called her home. When in her presence, she would always make you laugh no matter the circumstance.
She was a servant of the Lord at Bradley Church of God for many years but currently a member at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in Bradley. She had the most devoted church family one could ever hope for.
Vergie leaves behind five children, Deborah Ellington of Starkville, MS, Gary Ellington (Dixie) of Kosciusko, MS, Claudette Ray (Aubrey) of Sturgis, MS, Frances Reedy of Sturgis, MS, and Kim Edwards (Terry) of Duncan, MS; 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends who adored her.
Verige was preceded in death by her loving husband of 51 years, Frank Ellington; her parents; five brothers and six sisters; her daughter-in-law; her son-in-law; a great grandchild; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Memorial Garden Park Cemetery in Starkville. Bro. Michael Sanders and Bro. Junior Davis will officiate. Covid-19 protocols will be observed.
Welch Funeral home in Starkville has been entrusted with arrangements.
A very special thank you goes out to the staff of Carrington Nursing Center for their expert care and love of Vergie over the last couple of years.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her memory to Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church in Bradley to use as they see fit.
