Cletus Wayne Nixon was born on July 24,1945 to the late Cletus Arno and Opal Nixon. He was born at his home surrounded by love; being welcomed by his young parents and grandparents. He brought so much joy to his parents and grandparents lives.

He was the oldest of five children and was considered “the boss” by all of us; looking over and out for us, but with a sense of humor that always kept us entertained. He attended Ramer Elementary School and later transferred to Michie High School, graduating in 1963. He was enlisted in the National Guard and did basic training at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

He was gifted at fixing just about anything but he especially enjoyed working on his early cars and making them go faster than they were intended to go. He would come up with a way to go fast enough to be the winner of the local drag racing if possible. He was always proud of his racing trophies that he had won.

Right out of high school, he joined his daddy to work at the Wurlitzer Piano Company in Corinth, MS. He worked there until it closed. He was also employed by Waste Management in Corinth. Cletus was happiest when he could be outdoors with nature especially his dogs and horses. As a longtime friend said, “This world will not be the same without a Cletus Nixon in it.”

He is survived by a daughter, Cindy Baxter (Heath); and granddaughters, Madison Lain Caldwell and Madilyn Suzanne Caldwell. He was the proud Papaw to a great granddaughter, Karleigh Lane. He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and cousins that loved him very much. He is also survived by his siblings; Carita Kuykendall, Peggy Moore (David), Marilyn Dodd (John), and Randy Nixon (Jana) to whom he was a fun big brother.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cletus Arno and Opal Nixon; the mother of his child, Betty Jayne Austin Nixon; a great granddaughter Kenzley Jane; a nephew, Brad Moore; and paternal grandparents, George and Anna Nixon; and maternal grandparents, Audie and Jennie Mask.

Over the last two years, he has been cared for by his loving sister Peggy and her daughter Michelle. They have daily provided him with love, care and support.
