– Ronald Wayne Rea, 54, left this life February 10, 2021, surrounded by his family at St. Dominic’s Hospital in Jackson, MS.
Ronnie was born June 25, 1966 to Sarah Dunnam Hall of Myrtle and James E. Rea of Dumas, MS. He was a graduate of Myrtle School, Class of 1984.
He continued his education at Northeast MS Junior College and the University of Mississippi, majoring in journalism. Throughout high school and college, he served as a sports writer for the New Albany Gazette. After leaving Union County in 1988, he wrote sports for “The Post” in Vicksburg, MS.
While Ronnie loved sports, his passion was music. While growing his music career, he served as a manager for O’Reilly’s throughout south Mississippi and a security guard for Mazda in Jackson, MS, while owning and operating his company “Mower Less” in Brandon, MS. All while passionately singing and performing karaoke. He was loved by many and was commonly known to pack the house whenever he performed.
He is survived by two brothers, Jim Rea (Denise) of Amory, MS and Stacy Hall (Jackie) of El Cajon, CA; his special nephew, Joseph Rea (Bella) of Ft. Drum, NY; his best friends, Kim Colby of Clinton, MS and Dr. Thomas Rowell of Mobile, AL; and a host of friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Doyal and Juanita Dunnam, and Avery and Lola Mae Rea.
Visitation will be Saturday, February 13, 2021 at Union Hill Methodist Church from 10:00a.m. until 11:00a.m. There will be a private family celebration of his life at 11:00a.m. at the church. Burial will be at Union Hill Cemetery.
