James Mitchell Whitaker, 60, passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at his home. He was born on December 6, 1961 in Amory to Thomas Eugene Whitaker and Katherine Edwards Reich. Mitchell graduated from Hatley High School in 1980 and worked for many years for True Temper Sports. He owned and operated one of the first commercial yard mowing businesses in Amory which was his passion, and he was loved by all of his customers. Even in difficult health, he pushed himself to keep working. A talented electrician, he was also a handyman who could do anything. Mitchell was a member of the Smithville Church of Christ and he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home in Amory with Bro. Sammy Raper officiating. Burial will follow in the New Hope Cemetery.
He is survived by his son, Nathan Whitaker of Amory; his daughter, Emily Wright and Chanler Wright of Amory; two brothers, Tommy Whitaker (Judy) of Iuka and Mike Whitaker (Kay) of Amory; two sisters, Marsha Whitaker of Tupelo and Mary Sloan (Larry) of Amory; one granddaughter, Mary Paige Wright; a host of nieces, nephews, and friends; and special friends, Steve Robertson and Mike Palmer.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Pallbearers will be Tanner Hall, Johnny Hall, Bobby Oliver, and other family and friends.
Visitation will be from noon until service time on Saturday at the funeral home.
