Wallace Otto Miles Jr., The Man, The Myth, The Legend, was born in Starkville on April 14, 1945. He attended Starkville High School but eventually graduated from West Point High School. His career started at Borden Milk Company. He then started driving for PLI, Prairie Livestock Incorporated, until he started a very successful trucking company, Wallace Miles Trucking, and working with his Uncle Eugene Ray. They built a strong business. He had fond memories of driving cattle for Bryan Brothers Meat Packing Plant. He served time in The Mississippi National Guard. His first child was born when he was 24, Denise Miles, followed by Molly Jennings (Brice), and Michael Rambo Miles (yes, he was born the year after the first movie). Wally and his children would have been leaving for a beach trip this Thursday.
Wally has had many jobs but one of his biggest jobs was friend. He never failed to help someone out who was in need. He never sold anything but would “lend” things permanently to anyone who asked. He was well known and universally loved. He especially loved his family! His mother, Lavenia Ray Miles was his joy! He doted on her till her passing in 2014. He took her on trips and never missed a day of visiting with her. He loved his siblings as well. John Ray Miles, Rita Laine McReynolds (David Earl), Esther Berman (Chuck), Dicye Murphy (Billy), Kim Miles (Harley Burke), and Lonnice Fields (Rex). They have had many adventures together and shared their day to day lives to the fullest extent. They all have such similar traits that have bonded them forever.
He is survived not only by the above mentioned family but by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and even a few great greats! The newest addition is his namesake, Wally Wylde, his sister, Lonnice’s grandson. His extended family has also been near and dear to his heart. (Cynthia, Shane, Angel and Ann Marie) Along with family he leaves behind some of the best friends you could ask for. They include Prate Montgomery, Blake Garrard and Billy Petty.
He lived a full life, hunting, fishing, traveling, farming, and pursuing his love of music! He will be terribly missed and will continue to be loved and respected by all who knew him!
Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, August 14, 2022 from 1:30-2:30 p.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Starkville, MS, with the memorial service immediately following.
