Roy Bennett Mixon

Roy Bennett Mixon, 91, died Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – North Mississippi. A graveside service will be held Friday, September 16, 2022, at 2:00 P.M. at Orwood Cemetery with Michael Duckworth officiating.

Mr. Mixon was born on July 7, 1931, to the late Sydney and Sally Mixon. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during the Korean War before returning home to begin his career as a carman for the railroad, where he worked for over 40 years. Mr. Mixon enjoyed time spent on his farm, caring for his cows and spending hours on his tractor tending to his land. He was ordained a minister in the late 70s, and his unwavering faith and devotion to God stayed with him throughout his entire life. A member of Union West Baptist Church, Mr. Mixon loved to sing old hymns and visit with his fellow church members. He was married for 68 years to his beloved wife, Patsy, and cherished time with his family. Mr. Mixon is remembered as a loving father and grandfather, always supporting and looking after his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy Mixon; siblings, Mary Alice Swindle, James Mixon, Lawrence Mixon, Grace Elliott, Harold Mixon, Gerald Mixon, and Sarah Ann McMinn; his son, Gary Mixon; and daughter-in-law, Karen Mixon.

Mr. Mixon is survived by his daughter, Pamela Duckworth and her husband, Michael of Hernando, MS; a son, Paul Mixon of Oxford, MS; and granddaughter, Laura Ceballos and her husband, Andre of Nesbit, MS.
