Curtis Cleveland Thweatt

Curtis Cleveland Thweatt, 89, of Oxford, MS passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – North Mississippi. The funeral will be Friday, January 6, 2023, at 1:00 P.M. at Delay Baptist Church with Rev. John Thweatt and Rev. Sammy Gossett officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 11:00 A.M. at the church. Burial will follow in Delay Cemetery.

Curtis was born on March 25, 1933, in Thayer, Missouri to the late Alton Clifton and Evie Hill Thweatt. He joined the United States Air Force at the age of 17, where he was stationed in Iceland for two and a half years.

After returning to Oxford, Curtis worked at the Ole Miss Texaco for several years before joining Standard Coffee Company. In 1973, he began his career at The University of Mississippi, where he worked as a Senior Carpenter for 22 years. After retiring from Ole Miss in 1995, Curtis started Thweatt Construction, which grew into a successful three generation construction company.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter by marriage, Nicole Hitt; his great-granddaughter, Sophia Smiley; his sister, Evelyn Mason; and his brother, Charles Thweatt.

Curtis is survived by his wife of almost 30 years, Barbara Thweatt; his son, Mack (Beth) Thweatt of Paris, MS; daughter, Donna (Robert) Patterson of Oxford, MS; son, Mark (Nancy) Thweatt of Roswell, GA; and his children by marriage, Stephen Rosamond of Oxford, MS and Sonya Lara of Oxford, MS. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Mitchell Thweatt, Nikki Thweatt, Kasey Earnest, Amanda (Drew) Smiley, Paden Patterson, Cory (Chelsea) Thweatt, Alexandra (Daniel) Phillips, Evan (Morgan) Thweatt, and LilaGrace Lara; and ten great-grandchildren. He also leaves his five siblings, Emogene Gibson, Jack Thweatt, Elsie Crites, Dot (Lloyd) Barlow, and Bill (Bev) Thweatt.
