Erma Cook
Tupelo- Erma Jean Hendrix Cook, January 19, 2023 at the age of 87, closed her eyes in death and opened them in perfect vision in the presence of the Lord her Savior. She was born December 31, 1935 in Baldwyn MS, with a twin sister that passed away three hours after birth, to George and Annie Mae Tollison Hendrix. Her mother died when she was three months old and she was raised by her father and grandparents. She attended Geeville School, where she was on the basketball team and Baldwyn High School. January 15, 1954, she married the love of her life, Fred Thomas Cook and they celebrated 69 wonderful years together.
She was a homemaker and a very active member of Priceville Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher, Discipleship training secretary, church clerk and a member of other various committees. Her favorite committee was the kitchen committee, where she was chairperson for several years, preparing meals for church gatherings and other church functions. She also typed the church bulletins for many years. She loved playing Bunco on the first and third Tuesday nights with her “Bunco Buddies”.
She leaves cherished memories to her husband, Fred Thomas Cook, 2 daughters Sherry Cook of Tupelo, Lisa Thomas (Mike Dozier) of Plantersville, grandchildren Beth Thomas Harmon (Trent) of Tupelo, Jonathan “Johnny” Thomas (Misti) of Belmont, Paula Aldridge (Reed) of Verona and Michael Dozier of Plantersville. Great grandchildren Sophia Grace, Anna Claire Harmon of Tupelo, Noah, Ameila and Blair Tooley of Belmont, Greyson and Willow Aldridge of Verona, cousin Marjorie Hester of Booneville as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Glenford and Tommy Hendrix, sisters Jettie Wallis, Helen Johnson, Louise Wallis, her twin Earnestine Hendrix, sisters-in-law Minne Lee and Katie Hendrix, brothers-in-law Mescal, Julious Wallis and Clinnon Johnson and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and a niece.
Visitation will be 4 – 7 p.m. Sunday January 22, 2023 at Waters Funeral Home. Service will be 2 p.m. Monday January 23, 2023 at Waters Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Tutor officiating. Pallbearers will be Rickey, Jimmy and Billy Hendrix, Tim and Ronnie Wallis, Jonathan Thomas, Reed Aldridge and Michael Dozier. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Priceville Baptist Church Building Fund.
