Mary Estella Pittman

February 15, 1935 – February 24, 2023

Mary Estella Pittman, 88, entered her eternal home in heaven early on Friday morning February 24th, 2023. She left us peacefully in her sleep while at the home of her daughter. Born in Booneville, Mississippi on February 15th, 1935 to Joe Frank and Hettie Green. A decade later, her little sister Barbara was born and completed their family. She married Vernon Pittman on October 16th, 1955, and had three children Star, Joey, and Scott.
She grew up in Booneville with her sister Barbara. She was valedictorian of her class at Jumpertown High School. She graduated from NEMCC with a degree in business. She worked and retired from Davidson Chevrolet, and later went back to work at North Mississippi Planning and Development retiring at age 77.
She raised her children to know Jesus, and they were members of Booneville Church of Christ. Her first love was the Lord, and second was her family. She was truly the prime example of a Godly woman and loved nothing more than listening to her favorite Hymns.
Everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her would speak of her incredible talent for cooking. Her cakes and casseroles were both renowned and delicious. She worked her way through every cake recipe in the Southern Living Magazines, and every single one was a success. She loved reading and going shopping with her daughter. Every single grandchild loved to visit and eat her homemade popsicles. “Grandmother Stella” was a light to everyone in our family, and not a day will go by without us missing her.
She is survived by her sister Barbara Wright (Danny); three children Star Ray (Hannon), Joey Pittman (Karen), and Scott Pittman (Melissa); grandchildren Summer Ray Smith (Kyle), Sky Ray (Jennifer), Storm Ray, Jaime Pittman, Bridget Pittman Chism (Kyle), Joseph Pittman, Kyra Pittman Prater (Brandon); great-grandchildren Scarlett, Kannon, Levi, Paige, Cameron, Tyler, Zara, Jay Daniel, Jon Kyle, Gabe and Rae.
She was preceded in death by her husband Vernon Pittman; parents Joe Frank and Hettie Green; and granddaughter Mitzi Ray.
Visitation services will be held on Sunday, February 26th from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the McMillan Funeral Home. The funeral will take place at Booneville Church of Christ on Monday, February 27th at 2:00 pm. The burial will be at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Booneville.
