Amy Louise Person Vickery, 56, passed away on March 1, 2023 at her residence in Columbus, MS.
She was born on January 28, 1967 in Michigan to the late Thomas Edwin Person and Bonnie Jackson Person. She graduated high school in Hamburg, Arkansas, received her bachelor’s degree from Louisiana Tech University in Animal Science, her Master’s degree in Dairy Science from Mississippi State University, and her PhD in Food Science and Technology from Mississippi State University. Amy’s professional career began at Mississippi State University and later she worked in monitoring safety and environmental compliance and program management for Geocycle and Southwire and was recently employed by Clearwater Consulting as an Environmental Scientist.
She was also a member of Artesia United Methodist Church.
Her volunteer activities included: Board of Directors for the Mississippi Chapter and Southern Section with the Air and Waste Management Association, member of Christian Women’s Job Corps in Starkville, MS, Relay for Life in Starkville, Women in Science and Technology Conference, EMCC, and Mayhew, MS, and Local Emergency Planning Committee, Oktibbeha-Starkville and Lowndes-Columbus, MS.
In addition to her parents, Amy was preceded in death by her sister, Nancy Tacorda.
She is survived by her husband, Chris Vickery of Columbus, MS; sister, Susan Person; brothers, David Person and Thom Person, all of Arkansas; niece, Shelly Hudspeth and 17 additional nieces and nephews.
Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, March 5, 2023 from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Artesia United Methodist Church, with the funeral service immediately following. Rev. Gene Merkl will conduct the service. Burial will be in Artesia Methodist Cemetery.
