Charles Fletcher McReynolds passed away on March 1, 2023, at his home in Franklin, TN,
surrounded by his loving family.
Born September 17, 1938, Charles was the fourth of five children born to James Marion McReynolds, Sr. and Mary Pauline Swan McReynolds in Starkville, MS. Charles was known as Charlie by friends and Papa Charlie by his family.
He married his beautiful wife Betty Head McReynolds on December 19th, 1960, in Gulfport, MS.
Charlie’s career in commercial real estate development spanned over 50 years. He joined Arthur Anderson & Co. in 1961 after completing his Bachelor of Science Degree in accounting from Mississippi State University, where he was a proud member of Sigma Chi Fraternity.
In the early 1970’s, he joined Sea Pines Company, Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, a leading resort and com- munity developer, before forming Equity Management Corporation in 1976. For the next 25 years through EMC, Charlie acquired and developed over 6,000 luxury apartment units and other properties. In 2000, he formed PGM Properties, LLC with his son John, and together, for the next 20 years, they developed retail opportunities across the southeastern United States.
Mr. McReynolds was also a CPA, and his uncanny financial acumen combined with his perpetual optimism and ability to see opportunity and translate it into reality were among the qualities that endeared him most to those who knew him and loved him.
While caring for his family and building his businesses were the great passions of his life, Charlie also
served his community and enjoyed his life to the fullest. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Gulfport and a lifelong MSU Bulldogs football fan, as well as an avid golfer and boater. Charlie also loved to travel alongside of Betty and their children, with whom he shared many great adventures.
A longtime resident of the Mississippi Gulf Coast, Mr. McReynolds is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty; his sons, Scott and John; his daughters, Laura Hickham and Sara Lee; and by his 9 grandchildren, Jacob, Josie, Judah, and Joel McReynolds (Scott and Jennifer), Charlie and Lauren McReynolds (John and Lisa), Sara and Nathan Hickham (Laura and Tim), and Claire Lee (Sara and Brian); and numerous nieces and nephews.
