Jane Loretta Burke Ammerman

STARKVILLE – Jane Loretta (Burke) Ammerman died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, June 10 in Starkville. She was born November 27, 1923 in Dugger, Indiana and was the daughter of Jack and Annie Burke.

She attended elementary and high school in Dugger schools, where she met her future husband, Gale, in the seventh grade.
She married “the love of her life” during World War II on September 26, 1943. She remained in Dugger, working in the family country store until reunited with her husband at the end of the war.
She was a homemaker, a fantastic cook and the mother of five children and was the “rock” of the family. She had a great love of reading and instilled that passion in all of her children.
She and Gale were married for 65 years until his death in 2009. She was a longtime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gale R. Ammerman, sisters, Nancy Harvey and Vera Faidherbe of Indiana and her oldest son, John T. Ammerman of Boone, N.C. and granddaughter Jane Bell of Starkville.

She is survived by four children, Kathleen Winston of Starkville, Joseph P. Ammerman of Starkville, Mark A. Ammerman of Ethel, MS and Christopher J. Ammerman of Matthews, AL., sister Mary Frye of Indiana and 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Jim Hunniford, Rick Ammerman, Jason Ammerman, Cory Ammerman, Paul Ammerman, Joshua Ammerman, Austin Bize, Dylan Ammerman and John Ford Ammerman and great-grandson Will Hunniford.

Visitation will be at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Starkville, MS from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 14th with services immediately following. Burial will be in Memorial Garden Park, Starkville, MS.

The family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gale R. Ammerman Endowed Scholarship Fund, No. 500580, The MSU Foundation, P.O. Box 6149, Mississippi State, Ms. 39762.
