James Wesley Simmons, 81, of Vardaman, MS, departed from this life on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at his home in Vardaman. He was born on October 06, 1942, in Sabougla, MS to the late George Wesley Simmons and Irene Howell Simmons.
James served his country by serving in the National Guard for eight years. He then worked for Brookwood Furniture in Bruce, MS, for 20 years. James married Frances Hicks on October 22, 1965, they celebrated 58 years together. He enjoyed woodworking. James was a member of Grace Southern Baptist Church.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Frances Hicks Simmons of Vardaman; two sisters: Maxine Simmons of Calhoun City; Patsy Strickland of Calhoun City; special niece, Angela Williams of Oxford; and a host of nieces and nephews.
James is preceded in death by his parents, George Wesley Simmons and Irene Howell Simmons.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 25, 2023, from 10:00 A.M. until 11:00 A.M. at Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Vardaman. The service honoring James's life will take place on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Vardaman with Bro. Fred Hartley officiating, and Shelia Freely delivering the eulogy and tribute to James. Bubba Freely, Tim Hicks, Bryan Allen Long, Cody McClain, Robert McClain, Tony Morgan, Jeff Mounce, and Kevin Stafford will carry James to rest in Hillcrest Cemetery. The graduating class of CCHS 1961, 223 Eng. Battalion Serving in Calhoun City in Fort Polk, LA, Employees of Mounce Grocery Store, Don and RuthAnn Reedy, Charles and Geneva Thames, Houston Physical Therapy Employees, and Gentiva Hospice Employees: Kaylee and Jasmine.
