Jean Caines Brammer

Mrs. Jean C. Brammer, 90, died Wednesday December 6, 2023, in Oxford, Mississippi. A service will be held Monday December 11, 2023, at 2:00 pm at Oxford University United Methodist Church. Reverend Chris McAlilly and Pastor Emeritus Warren Black will officiate. Waller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jean was born April 26, 1933, in Hardy, Kentucky to Herbert and Florence Beaton Caines. She was reared in Ironton, Ohio, attended business school and married Dana B. Brammer, her high school sweetheart, on June 4, 1954. And remained married for sixty-nine years. Jean moved with her family to Oxford, Mississippi in 1962. She worked for Title IX and served as the Secretary at St. Andrews United Methodist Church for many years, prior to becoming Financial Administrator at Oxford University United Methodist Church in 1994.

A member of Oxford University United Methodist Church since May 1962, Jean sat on various committees within the church and continued her employment until her retirement in 2000, where she was honored at a luncheon with many friends and family in attendance. In 1992, Jean was elected to serve as a lay person on the Board of Diaconal Ministries. She was very active within the Oxford community, giving many years to service in various ways. Jean was an instrumental founder of Interfaith Compassionate Ministries where she was treasurer and co-chair until her recent retirement. She served on the local board of the Cancer Society and was very active with the Church’s PrimeTimers and enjoyed many trips – especially to Lake Junaluska, North Carolina. Jean was an avid walker until a few years before her death – walking many miles over many years with her dear friend Kitty Mann. She especially enjoyed her travels, international and domestic, with Dana and time spent with family and friends.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Florence, and one brother, Gerald. She is survived by a daughter Nancy Brammer of Jackson, Mississippi, two sons — Randal Brammer of Lacey’s Spring, Alabama and Steven Brammer of Washington D.C. — and two grandsons Dan Glenn Williams the IV and Charles Brammer Williams, both of Jackson, Mississippi.
