Wilbourn Busby

Mr. Wilbourn Busby, 80, died Thursday, December 7, 2023, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – Desoto in Southaven, MS. The funeral will be Monday, December 11, 2023, at 12:00 noon at New Prospect Baptist Church with Bro. Buster Wilson and Bro. Chuck Fowler officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 10:30 A.M. at the church. A graveside service will follow at Oxford Memorial Cemetery at 3:00 P.M.

Mr. Busby was born on July 12, 1943, to the late W.L. and Wanna Busby. He served as a Sergeant in the Army National Guard, after which he worked for his father at W.L. Busby Construction, before beginning his career with the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks as a facility maintenance supervisor. A lifelong resident of Oxford, Mr. Busby held a deep sense of community and was a devoted member of New Prospect Baptist Church. He was a Deacon for many years, serving several times as the Chairman, and served on several committees including the Pastor Search Committee, Building Committee, and Baptismal Committee. His faithful service to his church was best shown through his devotion as a Sunday School teacher for the 4th, 5th, and 6th grade classes. Mr. Busby loved his students dearly and his greatest joy was sharing his love of Christ with them. He was a member of the Yocona Community Center Committee, a Cub’s Scout Den Master, and coached Little League and Women’s Softball. Mr. Busby believed fully in giving back to those around you and set the finest example of that for his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Windell Busby.

Mr. Busby is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Dorothy Busby of Oxford, MS; daughter, Amanda Busby Morris of Franklin, TN; son, David Busby and his wife, Brandy, of Olive Branch, MS; sister, LaRhonda Busby Harris and her husband, Freddie, of Oxford, MS; brothers, Jarvis Busby and his wife, Mary Alice, of Oxford, MS and Dwayne Busby and his wife, Melba, of Oxford MS; sister-in-law, Carolyn Busby of Oxford, MS; as well as six grandchildren, Courtney Moody and her husband, Matt, of Germantown, TN, Josey Hanson and her husband, Miles, of Eads, TN, Zane Busby of Olive Branch, MS, Ziva Busby of Olive Branch, MS, Ellie Morris of Nashville, TN, and Anna Morris of Franklin, TN.
