Jimmie Carol Houston

February 7, 1950 – February 21, 2024

Family and friends are saddened by the passing of Jimmie Carol Houston on February 21, 2024. She was born on February 7, 1950, in Tupelo, MS. Known as JC to those closest to her, she lived the majority of her life in Itawamba County, MS.

JC graduated from Itawamba Agricultural High School in 1968 in Fulton, MS, and attended classes at Itawamba Junior College. She worked at North Mississippi Medical Center during her adult life. Her various assignments included ward clerk secretary, lab assistant and the many other hats she wore while employed there.  She loved her job and her colleagues.

JC was a remarkable storyteller and entertained all those around her with her riveting and interesting fun tales.  She was much loved by her family and friends.  At her 50th high school reunion in 2018, JC reunited with a group of fellow 1968 classmates who committed to meet for lunch at least once a month and do fun and interesting excursions afterwards.  She always talked about her reconnected high school friends who named themselves "The Daytrippers." The group is loyal and supportive of each other and were amazing to JC until the end.

JC fought a brave battle of health issues for the past six years.  She loved her medical team in Tupelo and all were amazed at her positive attitude no matter what obstacles were presented to her.  Her faith in God gave her strength during her health struggles.  She will be missed, but as she put it, she was ready to end treatment and put her ending days in the hands of the Lord.  Thank you to the North Mississippi Medical Center and Oncology Department for her care and treatment. We are sincerely grateful to the Sanctuary Hospice House for giving such great care to JC.

Jimmie Carol was preceded in death by her parents Carrie Eulane Beene Griggs Houston and James Quincy Houston; seven half siblings from her mother’s previous marriage — four brothers: Roger Wayne Griggs, David Bryant Griggs Jr, William Bryant Griggs, and John Archie Griggs along with three sisters: Betty Joe Griggs Snell, Thelma Francis Griggs Lindley and Eleanor Lee Griggs Raper; and a half sister Jean Houston Allen from her father’s previous marriage.

JC is survived by her half-sister, Wanda Houston Labar Carruth, who resides in Texas.

Her many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends will miss her incredibly. JC, you are gone from this world, but you left us with many great memories.  You are loved and will always be remembered.
