MANTACHIE – Helen Yielding Funderburk, 81, passed away Thursday, May 9, 2024, at her home in Mantachie. She was born November 29, 1942, in Itawamba County to William Dayton and Zera Aldine Underwood Yielding. In the late 1970s, Helen, along with her husband and children, established Funderburk's One Stop, later named Mantachie Foods, and operated it as their family business until the late 1990s. Helen enjoyed working in her flower beds and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be missed dearly by her loved ones.
Per Helen's request, no funeral service will be held. Private family burial will be Saturday at the Mantachie Cemetery. McNeece-Morris Funeral Home of Mantachie is entrusted with arrangements.
Helen is survived by her children, Jimmy Funderburk, David Funderburk, Renae Starling, and Mark Funderburk (Cassie Needham), all of Mantachie; eight grandchildren, Sara Helen Erickson (Kato), Meagan Stidham (Randy), Tonie Funderburk, Minda King (Josh), Dayton Funderburk (Tori), Miranda Guin (Jesse), Alexis Funderburk, and Abby Kirksey (Ben); 16 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Sue Smith.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Lyndon Funderburk, in 2014; her parents, Dayton and Zera Yielding; her in-laws, Jim and Lydia Funderburk; her brother, William "Bub" Yielding; and her son-in-law, Tim Starling.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 10, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home in Mantachie.
