Mary Anne Hickman

February 7, 1944 ~ May 8, 2024

Mrs. Mary Anne Hickman, 80, died Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at her home in Oxford, MS. There are no services planned at this time.

Mary Anne was born on February 7, 1944, in Shelby, MS, to the late Ida Mangino and James Roland McKinney. She graduated from Delta State University, before beginning her career as a kindergarten teacher. With a love for the Mississippi Delta, Mary Anne chose to remain in Greenville to raise her son in the same beautiful corner of the world that she grew up in. She and her family were members of the local St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Mary Anne relished entire days devoted to tending to her yard and overflowing flower gardens. Once retiring from teaching, her love for the Ole Miss Rebels brought her to Oxford, MS, where she found a new home for herself. She began working at Furniture World, applying her love for interior design to help others furnish and decorate their homes. Throughout her life, Mary Anne’s own house was always in immaculate condition, perfectly organized, and filled with loving touches that made it feel like home. She found great joy in building and decorating doll houses, bringing them to life with her meticulous attention to detail. After they were finished, Mary Anne couldn’t wait to gift them to her friend’s children to be properly enjoyed and played with. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Hickman.

Mary Anne is survived by her beloved son, Christopher Hickman and his partner, Roger McCauley, of Charlotte, NC.

Expressions of sympathy or memorial contributions in Mary Anne’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105 or online at ww.stjude.org.
