Joe was the youngest of 8 children and loved tagging along with his father to job sites where he began his passion of creating and building. He attended Itawamba High School and in 1948 enlisted in the US Army where he served 21 years at a variety of bases in South Korea, Germany, France, Virginia, Vietnam, and Tacoma, WA.

After his retirement from the service in 1969, Joe and his wife, Janet, started a successful home construction business in Tacoma, WA.   Later in Olympia, WA, they expanded the business to include commercial real estate. Joe’s passion projects included the private elementary school DuLaney Construction built in Lacey, WA and as a member of the volunteer group, Lakefair Capitalarians, Joe built a parade float that won several statewide awards for creativity and lighting. In 1989 Joe moved his family back to Fulton where they built their home and retired. Joe was happiest working in his shop building a variety of furniture, bird houses, sheds, and the occasional house. If there wasn’t a tool for his project, he would create one that would make his job easier. He helped many a neighbor and friend with various projects during his lifetime.
