Ruth Taylor Adams of Brandon, FL, 99, passed away suddenly July 30 in Portersville, PA, while on vacation with her family. She was born on November 17, 1924, in Dorsey, MS, to Alvin C. (Kirk) and Ada Mae (Lesley) Taylor. She moved to Illinois after World War II with her husband, Rex, living in Gurnee, IL for over 55 years.
Ruth worked for over 35 years as a federal civil servant, mostly as a budget analyst and then a program analyst at the Military Enlistment Processing Command Headquarters located at Great Lakes Naval Base, North Chicago, IL. She rose to a senior position, which included making presentations at the Pentagon. She had one of the highest security clearances available to non-military personnel. She retired just short of her 72nd birthday.
Ruth and Rex eventually moved to Ormond Beach, FL, when they were 80 years old, "hoping for at least three good years" there. They loved their time in Florida and had 10 great years together before Rex passed in 2015.
After Rex passed, Ruth moved to the Tampa area to enjoy time with her three children, who had all moved to Florida and lived near her. She loved to garden, tending to the yard, traveling, and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her three children: Linda Ryckman (Ber Stevenson) of Ft. Myers Beach, FL, Ronald Adams (Jean) of Lithia, FL, and Gary Wayne Adams (Daniel Grzesiak) of Orlando, FL; four grandchildren: Jacob Ryckman (Shanique), Rachael Lanham (Steve), Rebecca Bauer (John) and Jeremy Adams; and three great grandchildren: Delilah Ryckman, Ryan Ryckman and Jack Bauer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rex Adams; son-in-law Daniel Ryckman; and five siblings: James Thorben Taylor (Othel), Curtis Taylor (Susie), Ripple Justice; Thomas D. Taylor (Mittie); and infant Opal Olene Taylor.
