Mr. Steven Edwin Shaw, 72, died Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at Baptist Memorial Hospital – North Mississippi. A private family service will be held at a later date. Waller Funeral Home of Oxford is in charge of arrangements.
Steve was born on June 5, 1952, in Water Valley, Mississippi, to the late Mary Armstrong and Abbie Edwin Shaw. A graduate of Coffeeville High School, he held cherished memories from his years playing basketball and football. As a lifelong farmer, Steve was dedicated and held a strong work ethic, tending to countless fields of cotton and soybeans over the years, raising livestock, and baling hay. To find reprieve after a long day’s work, he found purpose and enjoyment spending time with his family and friends.
Steve was a member of Coffeeville Church of Christ, maintaining a strong commitment to the faith. He was a dedicated and trusted Alcoholics Anonymous mentor, a ministry that held a special place in his heart. In his spare time, he was an avid reader, enjoyed hunting and listening to music, but most enjoyed making music of his own through singing and playing the guitar. At Yalobusha County Nursing Home, Steve often led worship, sharing his beautiful gift of music with his fellow residents. He was also a talented writer who submitted guest articles to the local paper. Most of all, Steve valued every moment spent with his grandson, A.J. at his farm. He was always intentional about prioritizing their relationship, and was deeply proud of his service in the National Guard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Pauline Shaw.
Steve is survived by his sisters, Leslie Martin of Brandon, MS and Letitia Shaw Thompson and her husband, Craig, of Jackson, MS; grandson, A.J. Ray of Courtland, MS; along with his beloved nieces.
