Jettie Ruth Pettit

Jettie Ruth Pettit, 79, of Banner, MS, died at her home on November 4, 2024. Born December 28, 1944, in Memphis, TN, she was the daughter of M.D. (Bill) Hill and Ruth Champion Hill.

Jettie was a graduate of Bruce High School and The University of Mississippi with both a bachelor's degree and master's degree in education. She was best known as a teacher of mathematics at Bruce High School, but she also taught math for Northwest Community College and at her own tutoring center Eureka! along with private tutoring until her retirement in 2019.

In 2001 Jettie was commissioned as a Catholic Evangelist and spoke in churches across the United States. She was the Director for Catholic Charities in Vardaman, MS, for several years. She attended college in Cuernavaca, Mexico and began ESL classes and became an advocate for our county's local workers from Mexico. She was a member of The Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Houston, MS.

Jettie leaves behind: daughters, Barbara Jo (Jimmy) Howell of Calhoun City, Lesia (Loyd) Mann of Bruce, Darlene Pettit of Bruce and daughter by love Leslie (Craig) Lamar of Calhoun City; son Johnny (Ginger) Pettit of Pontotoc, MS; brother Billy (June) Hill of Bruce; grandchildren, Jonathan (Patricia) Howell of Clarksville, MD, Justin (Jenna) Howell of Edgewater, MD, Jaron (Emily) Howell of Naples, FL, Jesika (Art) Howard of Olive Branch, MS, Candy (Adam) Smith of Pontotoc, MS, Jason Mann of Bruce, MS, Ryan (Jessica) Mann of Senatobia, MS, and grandchildren by love, Eli and Cheyenne Lamar of Calhoun City, MS and 14 great-grandchildren. She is proceeded in death by her husband, Rev. James Edward Pettit, her parents M.D, (Bill) Hill and Ruth Champion Hill, and one great grandson Spencer Smith.

Public visitation for Jettie will be held at Parker Memorial Funeral Home in Bruce, MS on November 11, 2024, from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM followed by her funeral presided over by Father Tim Murphy. There will be a private family burial at the cemetery of her choice. David Hill, Charlie Hill, Mark Hill, Cody Hill, Art Howard, Jason Mann, Adam Smith, and Steven Smith will be serving as pallbearers. Jonathan Howell, Justin Howell, Jaron Howell, and Craig Lamar will be serving as honorary pallbearers.
