Melvin Leon McMillen, 94, passed away Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at his son’s home. He was born September 28, 1930, in Itawamba County, to Isom and Geneva Duncan McMillen. He was a United States Army Veteran, serving in the Anti -Aircraft Artillery division. He worked at Monroe Trousers, then at Charm Step for over 30 years, until they closed. He was also a sawmiller for most his life. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved hunting bird and rabbit hunting with his dogs.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 19, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Mantachie. Burial will be in the Dorsey Memorial Cemetery.
Survivors include one son, Douglas Leon McMillen (Debbie); two daughters, Brenda Lindsey and Teresa Doles; two brothers, Walter McMillen and Johnny McMillen (Cecilia); one sister, Minnie Warren (Elton); six grandchildren, Chris McMillen (Bri), Phillip Lindsey (Amy), Michael Lindsey (Mylie), Amanda Underwood (Thomas), B.J. Cox (Neeley), and Brad Jones; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane McMillen, who died in 2006; three brothers, Doug McMillen, Robert “Bob” McMillen, and Ernie Ray McMillen; three sisters, Sarah Warren, Clara McMillen, and Mary Jane Buchanan; and his parents.
Visitation will be Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until service time at McNeece-Morris Funeral Home in Mantachie.
