Mae Cole Litten, 93, a cherished matriarch and devoted member of the Big Creek community, passed away peacefully on January 25, 2025, at the age of 93. Born on July 20, 1931, in Grenada, Mississippi, Mae's journey was marked by a deep commitment to family, faith, and service.
A lifelong resident of Big Creek, Mae was a proud member of the Lewis Memorial Methodist Church, where she actively volunteered her time and efforts, always putting others before herself. Her dedication extended beyond her church; she also served as commander of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, a role that underscored her unwavering commitment to her community and country.
After beginning her working life at the Grenada Hoisery Mill, Mae proudly retired from Kellwood, where she was known for her strong work ethic and kindness. Above all, she cherished the moments spent with her family, leaving behind a legacy of love and compassion.
Mae is survived by her daughter, Sherry Casmus of Big Creek, MS; her sons, Buddy (Lisa) Litten of Big Creek, MS. and James Wilson Litten of Big Creek, MS; and her beloved grandchildren, Justin Casmus, Roger (Nichelle) Casmus, and Levi Litten, and three great grandchildren, Everleigh, Oaklen, Dallas with another on the way. She will be lovingly remembered by her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A graveside service to honor Mae's life and legacy will be held on January 28, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Chapel Hill Cemetery in Big Creek, Mississippi with Bro. Paul Brassfield officiating. Justin Casmus, Roger Casmus, Buddy Litten, James Litten, and Levi Litten will serve as pallbearers. Friends and family are welcome to attend as we gather to celebrate Mae's remarkable life and reflect on the positive impact she had on all who knew her. Mae Cole Litten will be laid to rest in peace, forever remembered for her selfless spirit and the love she shared with those around her.
Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Emmett Litten, father, Rufus Cole, mother, Katie O'Brien Cole, son, Bobby Litten,and a sister, Francis Thomas.
