Mr. Jose Ivan Villamil, 61, died Friday, January 31, 2025, at Progressive Health in Batesville, MS. A graveside service will be held at a later date in Puerto Rico National Cemetery in Bayamon, Puerto Rico.
Jose was born on December 2, 1963, in San Juan, PR to the late Ivan and Doris Garcia Villamil to whom he was an ever-present caregiver. Throughout his life, he held a deep love for all sports and found great joy in following his favorite teams and players. At one point, he was able to coach a minor league baseball team and further develop his understanding of athletes and deepen his love of the game. Jose was very outgoing and was known to make friends everywhere he went. Those who knew him understood that he only gave his special nicknames to those that were most important in his life. Even animals were blessed by special nicknames and he was most fond of his niece’s service dog that he affectionately nicknamed “Penny The Pony”. The relationship he shared with his niece was rooted in a mutual bond of their disabilities and his protective nature will be missed in Lexie’s life.
Jose is survived by a sister, Vivian C. Villamil and her wife, Ivon Munoz of Birmingham, AL; two brothers, Angel L. Villamil of Memphis, TN and Ivan A. Villamil of Oxford, MS; three nieces, Sandra Villamil-Luna, Rachel A. Villamil and Angelica Villamil; a nephew, Alex Villamil; one great niece, Sarah Luna and a great nephew, Carter Featherston.
