Dwight Eugene Hester
New Site- Dwight Eugene Hester, 97, of New Site, MS, passed away peacefully on. Sunday, July 27, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on September 12, 1927, in New Site, Gene was the son of the late Zolly and Jesse Hester. He was a man of strong values, known for his integrity, kindness, and generosity. He was a farmer and enjoyed playing dominoes, cards, especially Kings Corner and making quilts. Gene will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His legacy of love, wisdom, and laughter will live on in the hearts of those he touched. Gene was a veteran of the United States Army and served in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Liberty Church of Christ.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 @ 2:00 p. m. at Liberty Church of Christ in Dennis with Bro. David Conley and Bro. Scott Bridges officiating. Burial will be in East Prentiss Cemetery. Waters Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by three daughters: Alma Jean Freeman (Billy) of Michie, TN; Nita Frederick (Ricky) of New Site; and Rita Fraser (Phil) of Guntown. Gene was also a proud grandfather to his nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
Gene was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Mauvine; his daughter, Marie Thorn (Charlie); and one granddaughter, Georgia Ann.
Pallbearers will be Nathan Bridges, Jeffery Brooks, Baylor Storment, Bradley Frederick, Zachary Frederick and Harold Leathers.
Honorary pallbearers will be John Henderson and Gary Brooks.
Visitation will be at Liberty Church of Christ from noon until service time @ 2:00 p.m.
