Margaret Sims

December 1, 1941 ~ September 5, 2025

Margaret Ann Crews Sims, 83, died peacefully while surrounded by her family on September 5, 2025, at her home in Oxford, MS. A private graveside service will be held at Oxford Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Curtis Presley III officiating.

A member of Christ Presbyterian Church of Oxford, Mrs. Sims reiterated even in her last days her lasting hope in Christ Jesus.

Mrs. Sims and her husband John, a US Air Force Sergeant, raised their only child, Gary, on air traffic control assignments in Texas, Maine, England, and other places that seemed altogether exotic to the two Mississippi natives. After John’s retirement they settled in Oxford, where Margaret worked in the office of the University Attorney while John pursued a second career as an ROTC instructor at South Panola High School.

Margaret Sims is survived by her sister, Connie Mowdy (James) of Philadelphia, MS, nieces, Lisa Pierce (Kenny), Sylvia Shannon (Carl), and Kim Price (Mike), all of Philadelphia, MS, her sister-in-law, Virginia Evans of Meridian, MS, her special friends, Nancy Miller of Oxford, MS, Pennie Ash of Olive Branch, MS, Vicki Robinson and Cricket McGown both of Oxford, MS. Mrs. Sims was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie, their son, Gary Dean, and her parents Jack and Mamie Chapman Crews.

Memorial gifts may be directed to Christ Presbyterian Church (cpcoxford.org), St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org), or 9 Lives Cat Rescue, P.O. Box 2006, Oxford, MS 38655.
