RaMelle Bell Greene

January 25, 1945 ~ November 10, 2025

RaMelle “Cissy” Bell Greene, 80, of Oxford, Mississippi passed away on November 10, 2025. Cissy Bell Greene was born on January 25, 1945, in Memphis, Tennessee, but always called Hernando, Mississippi her beloved home. She was the daughter of the late Mr. Josh Bowles Bell Jr. and RaMelle Eason Bell of Hernando, and the second of three children, alongside Josh Bowles Bell III and Wren Eason Bell. She grew up in Hernando and graduated from Hernando High School in 1963. Cissy went on to study Early Childhood Education at the University of Mississippi where she was a proud member of Tri Delta Sorority. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1967, the same year she married the love of her life, James Martin Greene. Together they moved to Memphis, Tennessee, where they began their family and raised two children, Wren Martin Greene and Eason Greene Futch.

Upon moving to Memphis, Cissy taught second grade at Fairley Elementary School and cherished her students deeply. After becoming a mother, she devoted herself to raising her children, later joining James Martin in the home building business. With her keen eye for design and love of people, she guided homebuyers in creating warm, beautiful spaces. Her interior design career perfectly reflected her gifts. Always sociable and friendly, Cissy never met a stranger and loved spending time with others. She enjoyed music, especially the Blues and was quick to hop up and dance when the beat was just right.

The door to her home was always open and she enjoyed nothing more than a visit with whomever (dropped by), whether it was family, a friend, a neighbor or the (neighborhood) children, she would greet everyone (them) enthusiastically with a smile and a little laugh and an encouragement to “come on in!” She was generous, caring, and endlessly loving. Even as she bravely faced dementia, her joy, laughter, and kindness never faded. Surrounded by devoted friends at Beau Ridge and her favorite gathering place, The Library in Oxford, she continued to live with gratitude and light. Up to the very end, her (wide) circle of friends were unwavering in their support, The family is grateful for their friendship, love, support and consistently providing the sense of community she enjoyed so much.

Cissy is survived, loved and missed by her son, Wren Martin Greene (Catherine Pace Greene), daughter Eason Futch (Jason Morris Futch); her grandchildren Morgan Greene, Hardy Greene, James Burns Greene, Olivia Futch, Andrew Futch and Bowen Futch; and her brother Josh Bell IV.

A memorial service will be held on November 16, 2025 at Oxford University United Methodist Church at 2:00 p.m. A celebration of life will immediately follow at The Library on the square in Oxford.
