Doris Hines Shackelford Stanfill

September 18, 1936 ~ December 30, 2025

Doris Hines Shackelford Stanfill passed away peacefully on December 30, 2025, surrounded by the love she spent her lifetime giving so freely. Doris devoted her life to loving God, loving her husband, and loving her family with a fierce, unwavering devotion—and that love was evident to the very end. We will celebrate the life of our mom, grandmother and great grandmother on Sunday, January 4, 2025, at North Oxford Baptist Church. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 P.M. with visitation prior to the service beginning at 1:00 P.M. Burial will follow in North Oxford Baptist Church Cemetery.

Born and raised in Eden, Mississippi, in Yazoo County, Doris grew up in the Mississippi Delta in a large, close-knit family filled with laughter. She was the daughter of I.M. and Pearl Shackelford, who owned the local grocery store, and one of six siblings who shared a childhood rich in love, faith, and joy. Doris graduated from Yazoo City High School, where she proudly played on the women’s basketball team. After graduation, she left the small town of Eden to play college basketball at Holmes Jr college and then headed to Jackson, Mississippi to attend cosmetology school, where she would meet her future husband, Don Stanfill, an up-and-coming Southern Baptist preacher. From the moment she met him, Doris fell deeply and completely in love. They were married in 1959 and together built a life centered on faith, family, and service. They went on to have three children that were their pride and joy. Doris and Don shared a love that was rare and inspiring but above all, they shared a deep love for Jesus. As a devoted pastor’s wife, Doris had a gift for making everyone feel valued, welcomed, and loved. She served faithfully alongside Don in church and mission work, always lifting others up with her kindness, encouragement, and radiant spirit. Her faith was unwavering; Psalm 91 was her favorite scripture, a reflection of the trust she placed in the Lord throughout her life. Doris knew Scripture by heart and began each day early in prayer, faithfully lifting every member of her family before God by name.

Doris was a woman of remarkable joy. She always wore a beautiful smile, radiated warmth, and had a laugh so genuine and contagious that simply hearing it could change your entire day. Though she was truly beautiful inside and out, we don’t know that she ever fully realized just how stunning she was to those who knew her or the full impact she had on people’s lives. She was humble and oh so kind. A true Southern lady, Doris was always dressed to the nines, lipstick perfectly applied, nails freshly done, and often wearing her signature fur coat. She took pride in looking her best, believing it was one way to honor both herself and others. The scents of perfume, coffee, and Pond’s Cold Cream will forever bring her memory to life.

Doris was endlessly proud of her family. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with the same fierce devotion she had always given. She spent countless hours with her grandchildren, creating memories that will be cherished forever. There was never a beach trip without Grandmother and Granddaddy, and even after Don’s passing, she continued those cherished trips, carrying him in her heart.

Doris missed her beloved Don every single day during the 23 years since his passing, and her love for him never wavered. She adored her great-grandchildren just as she had loved her children and grandchildren before them, showering them with affection and pride. Her family was her greatest earthly joy.

Doris is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Don Stanfill; her parents, I.M. and Pearl Shackelford; and her siblings Irvin Shackelford, John Shackelford, Ellen Shackelford Singer and Lucy Shackelford.

She is survived by her sister, Nancy Popkin; her children, Don Alan Stanfill (Lesa), Tera Stanfill Martin (Adam) and Lucy Hasselman; grandchildren, Amy Stanfill Spicer (Patrick), Hannah Martin Eason (Justin), Joseph Martin (Caresse), Bethany Stanfill Ricks (Neal), Lucy Eason Martin, and Ann Morgan Hasselman; great-grandchildren, Luca and Lilah Rose Eason and Shields Spicer all of whom carry forward her legacy of faith, love, joy, and unwavering devotion to God and family.
