Sammy Coker

Baldwyn- Sammy Coker, 77, passed away at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in New Albany on Thursday, January 15, 2026. He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, riding his side by side and working in his garden. Sammy was a retired minister and pastored three churches, Beech Springs in Union County, Trinity in Baldwyn, and Chesterville in Lee County.

Funeral services will be held at Ellistown Baptist Church on Sunday, January 18, 2026 @2:00 p.m. with Bro. Mike Powell and Bro. Earl Barron officiating. Burial will be in the Ellistown Cemetery. Waters Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jane Coker of Baldwyn; daughter, Samantha Barron (Michael) of Baldwyn; son, Paul Coker (Anna); brother, Danny Coker (Judy) of Ellistown; (6) grandchildren, Wade Barron and Bellamy, Chloe Barron, Sam Barron, Jake Coker, Webb Coker and Stella Coker; a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends; his special little dog, “Prissy”.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Bessie Greer Coker; a sister and her husband, Janie Barnett (Lanois).

Pallbearers include Caysen Rowan, Hayden Powell, and his grandsons, Wade, Sam, Jake and Webb.

In lieu of flowers the family ask that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Disabled Veteran’s Association.

Visitation will be Saturday evening at Ellistown Baptist Church from 5:00 – 8:00 p. m. and Sunday from 1:00 p. m. until service time.
