Mrs. Lamb was born to the late Alwyn Boyce Coleman and Katie Mae Dickey on June 13, 1932, in Memphis, TN. In 1950 she married Homer C. Duke, Jr. of Oxford, with whom she had three children: William Kendel Duke, James Andrew Duke and Elizabeth Hunter Duke Hellmann. After the death of her first husband, she married William R. Lamb of Oxford, an attorney and later a Circuit Court Judge of many years. They had no children.
Mrs. Lamb loved the needle arts and filled her home with beautiful needlepoint bell pulls, pillows, ottoman covers and quilts. She was privileged to work as Office Manager of Congressman Jamie Whitten’s district office in Oxford for eight years before her retirement.
After the death of her husband of forty-six years, Judge William R. Lamb, she moved to The Ellison Assisted Living where she was involved in the week-day devotional, leading the service two days each week and attended Sunday morning church services (Methodist, Baptist and Episcopal). She led devotions at The Ellison five days a week for twelve years. She was especially thankful for the staff at The Ellison, some of whom she had known for many years, and all the many friends she met while there.
In addition to her first husband and her beloved second husband, Peggy was preceded in death by her son, James Andrew “Jimmy” Duke. She is survived by her son, William K. “Billy” Duke and his wife, Betty of Oxford; her daughter, Elizabeth Duke Hellman, widow of Bruce Hellman, of Fairfax, VA; her grandchildren, Theodore Duke Hellman (Nicole Garance) of Lahaina, Hawaii, William Lamb Duke (Allison) of Portland, Oregon, Margaret Swinney Duke of Nashville, Tennessee, Gwendolyn Hellman of Fairfax, Virginia and one great-grandchild, Sasha of Lahaina, Hawaii.
