Franklin “Cotton“ Stricklin, age 78, of Oxford, MS died peacefully Monday, February 24, 2020 at his home with family by his side. He was born June 8th, 1941 in Grenada, MS to the late Franklin and Clara (Goodwin) Stricklin. Cotton worked in factories most of his life ending his career at Oxford Wire and Cable. He also served our country for 27 years in the Army National Guard, retiring in 1992. Cotton had many joys in his life, which included fishing, working on cars, and carpenter work. Wood working was a particular passion, especially making matchstick, and popsicle stick houses. He also loved animals, including his dog Peanut. Cotton was a founding member of his church, Eveningtime Lighthouse where he helped to build the church and served The Lord by singing in the choir.
Visitation is planned for Thursday, February 27, 2020 in the Gardiner Room at Seven Oaks Funeral Home from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Services will follow at 11:00 AM in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks with Bro. Michael Ragan officiating. Burial will be in the Eveningtime Lighthouse Church cemetery.
Cotton is survived by his wife of 34 years, Annie Stricklin of Oxford; four sons, Larry Stricklin, Shelby Stricklin, both of Water Valley, Jimmy Briscoe (Ann) of Grenada, Barry Briscoe (Wendy) of Southaven; six daughters, Teresa Files of Crenshaw, Melissa Sartin (Charles) of Water Valley, Carol Harris (Preston) of Winona, Jeannie Goodeaux (Shane) of Deridder, LA, Jessica Michael (David) of Hattiesburg, MS, Loria Hollis (Joe) of Grenada; three brothers, David Stricklin (Karen), James Stricklin (Ruth) all of Water Valley, Charles Stricklin of Tucson, AZ; five sisters, Shirley Baker, Gladys Mitchell, Maxine Rose, Dorothy Schwinn (Chuck), Sandra Melton, all of Water Valley; twelve grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren.
