Thomas “Goose” Morris

October 04, 1939 – January 14, 2020

Thomas Lee “Goose” Morris, 80, Bruce traded his sorrow for joy on January 14, 2020 at Oxford Health and Rehab in Oxford, Mississippi. Born on October 4, 1939 in Cumberland, Mississippi; Goose was a son to the late Thomas Eldridge Morris and Mildred Lavon Shepard Morris.

Goose was a graduate of Derma High School, and a celebrated basketball player for the Derma High School basketball team. June 18, 1960 marked the day Goose’s life changed forever; he married his heart throb, Mary Newman Morris. The couple spent a timeless 59 years together. Throughout his life Goose held many different career hats. He proudly served his country for 23 years in the National Guard and served the city of Bruce and Calhoun City as a police officer. Goose was a faithful employee of Memphis Hardwood, where he retired as a truck driver. However, he kept the roads and the gears shifting after he retired from Memphis Hardwood. When Goose wasn’t over the road, he loved the solitude he found fishing. God blessed Goose with the ability to sing and he often shared his talent at Parker Baptist Church.

Goose is survived by loving wife Mary Newman Morris; two sons, Bro. Paul W. (Melissa) Morris of Bruce, and Marvin L. (Sandra) Morris of Pittsboro; one brother, Dale Morris of Calhoun City; one sister, Joyce Hughes of Coffeeville; three grandchildren, Adam Tyler Morris, McKenzie Taylor Morris, and Hannah Grace Morris.

He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas Eldridge Morris and Mildred Lavon Shepard Morris and one son Terry Lane Morris.

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 17, 2020 from 12:00-2:00 PM at Parker Memorial Funeral Home of Bruce.
