Virgil Keith Burnett

Virgil Keith Burnett, age 88, of Oxford, MS, died peacefully at home, with his wife and family by his side, Monday, March 16, 2020.

Keith was born April 28, 1931, in Stover, Missouri, the oldest son of the late Hurshel and Denzil (Anduss) Burnett. Keith worked for nearly 30 years as a Journeyman Electrician for the Caterpillar Tractor Company, before retiring in 1990. He married Emma (Greger) in 1950. After retirement, the two of them traveled across North America in their BlueBird Wander Lodge motorhome, visiting family and friends and seeing the sights of this great country.

Keith enjoyed the outdoors and especially loved hunting and fishing with his grandsons, Chad and Adam, in Illinois, Missouri, Canada and Alaska.

Keith loved his family and was a devoted husband and father and known as “Paw Paw” by his 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was a gentle and wise man, who was always willing to help family and friends, with an encouraging word or common sense advice.  

Keith had put his faith and trust in Jesus Christ, and was a committed follower of Him. Although sad, his family is celebrating, because they know they will see him again one day.

Keith is survived by his wife of 69 years, Emma, 2 daughters, Janie Calhoun (Steve) of Greenbrier, TN, Rhonda Edwards (Jim) of Medina, TN and 1 son, Brad Burnett (Amy Sue) of Batesville, MS; 7 grandchildren, Jodi Brown, Mandi Prado (Alex), Chad Edwards (Heidi), Laura Kidd (Jason), Andrea Burnett, Kari Bahorik (Justin) and Adam Burnett (Amy);  13 great grandchildren, Olivia, Sophia and Emma Brown,  Penelope and Arabella Prado, Ashley and Austin Edwards, Jack and Carter Bahorik, Story, Meila, Oakley and Herschel Burnett. He is also survived by 1 sister, Sonia Rose of Columbia, MO and 1 brother, Vencil Burnett (Mary) of Springfield, MO.

Along with his parents, Hurshel and Denzil Burnett, Keith was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Earl and Terry Burnett.

A private family service will be held at a later date. Waller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangments.
