Jo Nell Cox

February 8, 1941 – April 20, 2020

Amory – Jo Nell Cox, 79, began her new eternal life in Heaven on April 20, 2020. She was born on February 8, 1941, at her home place, in Monroe County, to the late Julius and Alma Lelia Berryman Cox.

Jo Nell was raised in a large family and went to school in Columbus and Hamilton. She was the heart and joy of her family and they adored her dearly. A member of Liberty Baptist Church, Jo Nell loved her church family dearly. She sang in the choir and she never met a stranger in her daily walk. She loved the Lord and she always enjoyed singing praise to God. Gospel music was her favorite music. Later in life, she became a resident of Diversicare Nursing Center in Amory and she made many friends throughout the years. Jo Nell had a mind of her own and could remember just about any fact given to her. Her cousins, Bill and Sandra Cox would come visit her weekly and this was a time that Jo Nell cherished.

A kind soul, Jo Nell especially enjoyed spoiling her nieces and nephews. Writing, coloring, and drawing was some of her talents that she acquired through the years. Jo Nell also liked to build crosses out of popsicle sticks and make bracelets to give others. She was independent, happy, and always had a word for people to help encourage them. Although her presence here will be missed, her family and friends celebrate her home-going as she is reunited with her parents and she is with her Lord and Savior. Jo Nell will be missed dearly.

Jo Nell is survived by her sisters, Peggy Minor (Bro. Lloyd), Becker, Judy Nanney (Rickey), Nettleton, Brenda Sue Clark, Shannon, Martha Jean Bogan, New Albany; brother, John William “Bill” Cox (Cissy), Blue Mountain; host of nieces and nephews; special cousins, Bill and Sandra Cox

Jo Nell was preceded in death by her parents and her brother in law, Thomas Clark.

A graveside funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 22, 2020, at Liberty Cemetery, Nettleton, MS, with Bro. Wesley Stephens officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be her nephews, Randy Minor, Wade Minor, Wesley Francis, Dylan Cary, Cory Merrell, and Cartavious Bogan.
