Lynn Oliver Wood died Tuesday, May 19, 2020, at the age of 76. He is survived by his wife Anne, son Michael, daughter-in-law Melanie, grandchildren Lucy, Annie, and Morgan, and son Bill. His father Leonard and mother Edith preceded him in death.
He was born and grew up in Darden, Tennessee, graduated from Lexington High School and Bethel College, and received a master’s degree in teaching from Middle Tennessee State University. After teaching in Jacksonville, Florida, and at Ramer High School, he taught in the Corinth school system’s science department from 1967 until 2005 and was honored by the Corinth High School Alumni Association in 2018. He coached the CHS tennis team to fourteen state championships and was inducted into the Mississippi Association of Coaches Hall of Fame in 2006. Coach Wood also drove a school bus and taught bus driver training, announced CHS basketball games, and officiated high school football and league softball games. He was a certified United States Tennis Association official.
Coach Wood enjoyed gardening with his wife Anne and various friends and was a Mississippi Master Gardener. An avid beekeeper later in life, he taught a beekeeping class in Corinth and was a member of state beekeepers associations in Mississippi and Tennessee.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Corinth. Graveside services for Lynn Oliver Wood are set for 1:00 PM Saturday at Darden Cemetery.
