Benjamin Clay Bird

February 26, 1935 – June 26, 2020

Benjamin Clay Bird, 85, passed away at his residence on Friday, June 26, 2020. He was born in West Point on February 26, 1935 to the late Lee and Georgia Millcan Bird. Ben attended Franklin Academy in Columbus and after his graduation he honorably served his country in the United States Army and the Mississippi Army National Guard. On September 4, 1965 he married the former Delores Brown. A long time parts manager and a true “parts man” he worked at NAPA in Sulligent and Aberdeen, later retiring from Auto Zone in Amory. For a number of years, he and Delores owned and operated Mr. Parts in Aberdeen. He was also a 20 year employee with Allied Chemical in Prairie and in Georgia also. Ben found joy in watching birds, building birdhouses and bird feeders. More than anything, he enjoyed people, especially his customers, children and his family. A die hard Alabama Football fan, he had many fond memories with his family yelling Roll Tide together.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Delores Brown Bird, Aberdeen; sons, Christopher, Bradley and Jeremy Brown; sisters, Nell Barnes of Grand Prairie, TX and Sharon Mann (Mel) of Pewaukee, WI; brothers, Dennis Bird, Nevada and Mike Bird (Reda) of Aberdeen and a special friend Alvis Taylor.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Bird and a son, Timothy Bird.

Graveside services will be held at 4 PM on Sunday, June 28 at the Oddfellows Rest Cemetery in Aberdeen with Bro. Wesley Stephens officiating. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery at 3:50 PM. Pallbearers will be Anthony Bird, Justin Bird, Blake Bird, Conner Bird, Richard Baty and J.C, Robinson.
