Samuel Hardy Farris, Jr., age 87, passed from this life into the arms of his Savior on June 30, 2020, in Oxford, Mississippi. A family funeral service will be held Friday, July 3 at 3 P.M. in the Chapel of Waller Funeral Home with The Reverend Doctor Robert Allen officiating.
The funeral service will also be live streamed on Waller Funeral Home’s Facebook page. Internment will take place immediately after the service at Oxford Memorial Cemetery, with Robert B. Farris, Jr. officiating.Born in Memphis, Tennessee, to the late Samuel Hardy Farris, Sr. and Floy Barrow Farris of Clarksdale, Mr. Farris was a retired bank president and financial advisor. He received his Bachelor Degree and Masters of Business Administration from Mississippi State University. However, Hardy always considered himself to be an Ole Miss Rebel, as he lived and worked in Oxford the majority of his life and saw both children and all five grandchildren graduate from the University of Mississippi.
Hardy was an officer in the United States Army, serving in the Army Security Agency stationed in Asmara, Ethiopia, with his bride from Oxford, Martha Faye Nicholas Farris. Mr. Farris was a Loan Officer of Bank of Clarksdale, President of both the Bank of Batesville, and The Bank of Oxford when they were owned and operated as the United Southern Bank. He retired from the bank shortly after they were purchased and operated as Regions bank on the Square in Oxford and became a financial advisor with Edward Jones. Hardy was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Oxford where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was an active member of the Rotary Club in both Clarksdale and Oxford.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Faye Nicholas Farris; his brother, Robert Barrow Farris of Clarksdale; his sister-in-law Patsy Sheley Farris of Oxford; and his brother-in-law, Roger Folk of Southaven. Survivors include his sister, Linda Farris Folk of Southaven; his son, Samuel Hardy Farris III of Oxford and his wife Kimberly Pruette Farris; his daughter, Catherine Farris Miller of Jackson and her husband Craig Leon Miller; his granddaughter, Katherine Farris Myers and her husband Robert William Myers of Forth Worth, Texas; his grandson, Samuel Hardy Farris IV and his wife Ainsley Mills Farris of Houston, Texas; his grandson, Farris Alexander Miller of Jackson; his granddaughter, Murray Catherine Miller of Washington, DC; his granddaughter, Martha Tatum Miller of Jackson; and his great grandchildren Carolyn Rose Myers, Olivia Pruette Myers, William Farris Myers, and Samuel Hardy Farris V.
