Almon O’Neal Thompson

Aberdeen— Almon Cassie O’Neal Thompson, 83, passed away peacefully at her residence, surrounded by her loved ones, on Saturday, July 18, 2020. She was born on July 22, 1936 in Wayne County, Mississippi, to the late Bilbo and Virley O’Neal.

Almon was a wonderful, loving mother and grandmother. None of her grandchildren or great-grand-babies ever walked through her door without Almon asking, “Baby, what do you want to eat?” She enjoyed canning, cooking, and quilting. Almon worked for several years as a seamstress in the garment industry. In her later years, she was a certified nursing assistant at Beverly Nursing Home, where she retired. Almon loved taking trips with her friends Ruth Miller and Joan Tribble. She enjoyed family reunions and spending time with her family. In her free time, she liked playing dominoes and card games.

Almon was a loving matriarch to her family. She created so many wonderful memories with her loved ones throughout her life. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Almon is survived by her children, Dean Culver (Larry), Linda Hatcher (Jerry), Christopher Lee Thompson; step-children, Royce, Wanda, Doris Brewer (Bobby), Keith Thompson; grandchildren, Robin Culver, Justin Hatcher (Kayla), Rusty Culver (Wendy), Lesley Fleming (Casey), Camron Buckner (Denise); great-grandchildren, Daniel “Newt” Ridings, Tristan Randall Hatcher, Tanner Reed Hatcher, Anna Carson Fleming, Mason Buckner; siblings, Virginia Lovett, Rudolph O’Neal; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore Bilbo O’Neal and Virley Smith O’Neal; first husband, Auzzie Lee Thompson; second husband, Billy Keith Thompson; step-son, John Allen Thompson; sister, Annie Dell O’Neal Simmons; and sister-in-law, Loretta O’Neal .

A funeral service will be held at 4PM on Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory, with Bro. Justin Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in Lann Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Robin Culver, Newt Ridings, Rusty Culver, Justin Hatcher, Tristan Hatcher, Tanner Hatcher, Lesley Fleming, and Anna Carson Fleming. Honorary pallbearers will include Boyd Duncan, Bobby Price, Jimmy Dale Tribble, Barry Tribble, Jason Humbers, Benny Thompson, Sonny Price, Larry Culver, Jerry Hatcher, Casey Fleming, and Camron Buckner.

Visitation will be from 1PM until the service hour on Wednesday at the funeral home.

  1. Dear Kennedy Family, I am deeply sorry for your loss and I would like to share an encouraging scripture with you. The scripture is found at Revelation 21:3,4 and speaks of a time when God will rid the earth of all the terrible things we endure now, even death. Yes, there will a time when we will no longer have to suffer with the things we do today. Many find this promise from God comforting. I hope this message is a source of encouragement and comfort during this difficult time.
