Charles William Rogers

December 24, 1936 – October 17, 2020

Charles William Rogers, 83, of Bruce departed from this life on Saturday, October 17, 2020, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Charles graced the world with his presence on December 24, 1936, at his family home in Bruce. He was a son to the late William Rufus Rogers, Sr., and Beatrice Barefield Stewart.

Charles, a simple man with a strong work ethic, spent his days with variety of careers. Charles started his adult life working for the Glenn Slacks garment company until finding a lifelong career protecting and serving the citizens of Bruce as a police officer for thirty years. Then retirement came calling. With a heart for public service and the needs of others, Charles volunteered with the Bruce Fire Department where he obtained the status of chief. During his reign as chief, Charles played a major role in obtaining the towns first rescue truck. Aside from his watchful eye as a public servant, he spent many laborious hours building homes around the Bruce area. Charles could frame up a structure with ease and he could also delicately piece together custom kitchen cabinetry. Never sitting idle, Charles most recently, could be found making deliveries and pulling lumber orders at Spratlin Building Supply. Apart from punching the clock, he enjoyed the leisure activity of baiting a hook and casting a line in hopes of reeling in a fish. Charles loved spending time in his daughter’s flower shop blowing up balloons, especially on Valentine’s Day. Above all his hobbies, Charles was truly at peace when he was sitting atop his Exmark zero turn lawn mower cutting grass. He lived upon the level and parted by the square as a fifty-year member of the Antioch Masonic Lodge. Charles didn’t simply pass away; he held the cure to death in his soul, an active relationship with Jesus where he worshiped Him at Mt. Comfort Baptist Church. Although this icon of a man has gone to rest in a sacred place free from ailments, Charles will be profoundly missed by his loving family and friends.

Those left to carry his precious memory in their hearts include: his loving wife Bennie Logan Rogers of Bruce, one daughter Connie Lynn Rogers of Bruce, and sister- in- law Martha Rogers of Bruce.

Charles was preceded in death by his step-father and mother Harmon and Beatrice Stewart; father William Rufus Rogers, Sr.;  daughter Teresa Ann Rogers;  son-in-law Lynn Murphree; two brothers:  James Rogers and William Rogers; and two sisters: Birdie Stone and Emogene Clements.

The family will receive friends on Monday, October 19, 2020, at Parker Memorial Funeral Home of Bruce from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM. The funeral service remembering Charles life will take place in the Chapel of Parker Memorial Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 20, 2020, at 2:00 PM with Bro. J R Eaton, Bro.
