Betty Jeanette Flannigan Hood, age 73, of Water Valley, MS died Saturday, October 17, 2020 at the Yalobusha Nursing Home. She was born April 15, 1947 to the late Annie Brown and W. T. Avants in Mobile, AL. Betty was a beautician for 25 years and owned her own beauty shops in Louisiana and in Mississippi. Betty was also a jailer in Oxford for a number of years. She was an avid reader and loved cooking for her family gatherings. Betty was a member of the First United Pentecostal Church of Water Valley.

Visitation will be Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at Seven Oaks Funeral Home from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 21 at 2:00 PM in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks with the Rev. Charles Compton officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery adjacent to the church.

Betty is survived by two sons, Jimmy Hood (Lee Ann) of Water Valley, MS and Dennis Wayne Hood (Liane) of Pine Grove, LA; Daughter-in-law, Beth Hood of Water Valley, MS; one sister, Linda Hodge (Dennis) of Water Valley, MS; one brother, Butch Avants (Margie) of Water Valley, MS; six grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren.

Betty was preceded in death by one son, Richard Eugene Hood; one sister, Eunice Netterville; and one brother, Charles Avants.
