December 31, 1938 ~ December 4, 2020 (age 81)

Mrs. Marie Goolsby, 81, transitioned on Friday, December 4, 2020 at Oxford Health & Rehabilitation in Oxford, MS.

In Loving Memory
Mrs. Marie Murphy Goolsby (Aunt Ree) was born December 31, 1938 in Lafayette County Mississippi to the union of the late Willie B Murphy and the late Eardie Bowen Murphy Vaughn.

She was the stepdaughter of Albert Vaughn.
She accepted Christ at a young age and was baptized at East St Peter MB Church under the leadership of Rev.  C. I. Bulloch. She served faithfully as an usher and member of the combined choir until she moved away.  She was an active usher at Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Jackson, MS until her illness caused her to move back to her sister’s home in Etta, MS.  She then fellowshipped with Flint Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Etta, MS.

Marie was a 1959 graduate of Oxford Training School. She also graduated from Business School while staying with her father, Willie B. Murphy in Detroit, Michigan. Marie & her husband Robert Goolsby opened Goolsby auto repair shop and were remarkably successful in the Oxford & Lafayette county area for many years.  Marie worked the office & was responsible for customer service & scheduling customers for service. Later, she was employed as a customer service associate for Roses and McRae's in Jackson, Mississippi at the time of her retirement.

She enjoyed walking for exercise, playing board games, fishing, gardening and taking care of her mother until her mother’s death. She loved spending time with her sisters, nieces & nephews. She also enjoyed traveling & site seeing. She enjoyed going out to eat with family and always had great gifts for birthdays!

She was united in holy matrimony to Robert Essie Goolsby who preceded her in death. While she did not have any biological children, she was a kind nurturer to many.
Marie leaves to cherish her memories three sisters:  Mary C. Driver of Etta, MS, Mary Alice Mason of Alton, IL and Earlean Rogers of Augusta, GA.  Six brothers 'n law: Willie Frank, Leroy, Henry, Calvin, Nathaniel and Jerry Goolsby.  A special cousin Jurlean Goolsby and many nieces, nephews and friends.

The Family of Mrs. Marie Goolsby would like to thank all of our family and friends, for any acts of kindness during her illness. We extend our gratitude to the staff at Oxford Health and Rehab Center. We continue to be comforted and strengthened by your prayers and expressions of sympathy during this time.  May God richly bless you.
