Maggie Braxton Thompson

February 9, 2021

Indianola/Amory – Maggie Thompson, 95, gained her heavenly wings on February 9, 2021, while in Indianola, MS. Born on March 7, 1925 in Braxton, MS, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin Wesley and Hattie Counts Braxton.

Maggie grew up in Braxton, MS and graduated from High School. She grew up in a large family with five other siblings and she learned early the value of family. For her entire life, she worked in one of the most careers around, a homemaker. She married the love of her life, Walter Charles Thompson on July 25, 1944, and together they were blessed by God with seven children. She was a wonderful wife and supportive mother who, according to them because of her wisdom, “she was always right”.

A faithful Christian, Maggie was a member of both Amory Church of God as well as God’s Harvest Church in Indianola, MS. She loved the Lord, was a faithful member and she enjoyed visiting with her church family. She always encouraged tithing, giving to St. Jude and getting uplifted by listening to Gospel music. Her family meant the world to her and her grandchildren learned many great lessons through the years because of her life experiences. Maggie was a beautiful person inside and out who loved others selflessly. Her family said she loved to go shopping. It was one of her favorite past times and she often did this with Brenda Woodard, as well as Lucille and Johnny Braxton. On beautiful days, she liked to go for rides to see the country side and just be out on the road.

Although they will miss her dearly, they know that she is in Heaven, celebrating a new life with the Lord. Her children know they were blessed by God with such a great mother and role model. The memories made with her throughout the years will be cherished forever.

Maggie is survived by her daughters, Peggy Davis (Wally), Indianola, MS, Frances Davis (Jerry), Amory; son, Donald Thompson (Virginia), Cleveland, MS; 22 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sister, Thelma Stachura (Jim), Chicago, IL; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Charles Thompson; daughter, Mattie Jean Castle; sons, Walter Charles Thompson, Jr., Kenney Thompson, and Jimmy Thompson; sister, Earnestine Beasley; 3 brothers, Travis Braxton, J.W. Braxton and Harmon Braxton; grandchildren, Walter Charles Thompson, III and Sherena Roberts; great –great-granddaughter, Ozzy Davis; great-great-grandson, Jessie King.
